Masami's Ceramics

Artist statement

I was born and raised in Japan. My creations are influenced by the traditional “wabi-sabi” Japanese ceramics which are imbued with subtle taste and elegant simplicity.  I concentrate on balancing utility and beauty in my work. I think texture, weight, and functionality are just as important as design and originality.

Although my ceramics are usually utilitarian, they express my thoughts, ideas and feelings. While I feel I’m in control of the medium when I create objects from clay, the final result depends a lot on the firing process which may be surprising.
